Early Voting

Delaware voters may vote early at any designated Early Voting Site within their county of residence.

Early voting locations are different from your assigned Election Day polling place, so confirm the location and schedule before you go.

Primary Early Voting

September 2–5: 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

September 6–7: No Early Voting

September 8: 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

September 9–13: 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

General Election Early Voting

October 22–24: 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

October 25: No Early Voting

October 26–27: 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

October 28–November 1: 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Voter Registration

You must be registered to vote in Delaware to participate in state Primary and General Elections.

To register in Delaware, you must generally be a U.S. citizen, a Delaware resident, and 18 years old on or before the next General Election.

You can also use Delaware's Voter Portal to check your registration status, confirm your address, and review your party affiliation.

Important for the Primary: Delaware generally uses a closed primary system. Democrats vote in the Democratic Primary and Republicans vote in the Republican Primary. Special 2026 rules apply to certain voters who were automatically registered through DMV, so voters with questions about their party affiliation should verify their record through the Delaware Voter Portal.

What ID Do I Need to Vote?

Delaware does not require a photo ID to vote in state and federal elections.

Poll workers will ask you to show proof of identity, but a voter who does not present ID may still vote after completing an Affirmation of Voter Identity if the voter is otherwise eligible.

Bringing identification can make the check-in process faster. Examples of identification Delaware election officials may accept include:

Delaware driver's license
Delaware State ID
U.S. Passport
Signed polling-place card
Signed Social Security card
Signed vehicle registration
Certain other documents identifying you by photo or signature
No ID with you? If you are otherwise eligible to vote and appear on the poll list, Delaware allows you to complete an Affirmation of Voter Identity before voting.

Absentee Voting

Delaware absentee voting is available to registered voters who are unable to vote at their assigned polling place on Election Day for a reason permitted by Delaware law.

The quickest way to request an absentee ballot is through Delaware's official Voter Portal.

Primary Election

September 11: Last day to request that an absentee ballot be mailed.

September 14 at noon: Deadline for the Department of Elections to issue absentee ballots.

September 15 at 8:00 p.m.: Voted absentee ballot must be received by the Department of Elections.

General Election

October 30: Last day to request that an absentee ballot be mailed.

November 2 at noon: Deadline for the Department of Elections to issue absentee ballots.

November 3 at 8:00 p.m.: Voted absentee ballot must be received by the Department of Elections.

Returning your ballot: Voted absentee ballots must be returned to the main Department of Elections office for your county. Delaware does not accept absentee ballot returns at Early Voting Sites or Election Day polling places.

Where Do I Vote?

On Election Day, Delaware voters must vote at their assigned polling place.

Your polling place is based on your home address and is listed on your polling-place card. You can also find it through Delaware's Voter Portal or the Department of Elections polling-place lookup.

Election Day polls are open 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
